We’re on the verge of a huge progressive victory for the antiwar movement. Jane Hamsher estimates we have 36 of the 39 Democratic votes needed to defeat the war supplemental bill in the House tomorrow–which leaves only three to go! We must make sure our Reps know we oppose the war, and remind them that everyone in the House in 2007 signed the pledge not to vote for more war funding unless there are provisions for troop withdrawal.
According to Hamsher, here are the vets who are “leaning No” and could use a boost of antiwar support:
- Steve Cohen
- Keith Ellison
- Chakah Fattah
- Mike Honda
- Ann Kirkpatrick
- Doris Matsui
- Ed Markey
- Jim McDermott
- Gwen Moore
- Jared Polis
- Jan Schakowsky
- Mike Thompson
- John Tierney
- Mel Watt
- Anthony Weiner
Brave New Films has put together a series of messages from Director Robert Greenwald, targeting specific states where pressure is needed most: Massachusetts, New York, Maine, Colorado, Connecticut, Michigan, Vermont, Virginia, Texas, California, and Arizona. If you live in one of those states or know someone who does, forward them the appropriate video and ask them to call Congress: (202) 224-3121.
If they have already agreed to vote “No,” be sure to say thanks for taking a stand against the war. You can also give Congress a call and see how Dems are leaning through FireDogLake’s Whip Tool.
And for all of you on Twitter, Bob Fertik at Democrats.com has some quick messages for you to Re-Tweet key members of Congress:

I suggest the U.S. get the money from Dick Cheny and the Bush Family,
and Halliburton.
Learn from history, we can't win in Afghanistan.
did robert just rip a big one at the beginning of the film or was he rubbing and tugging at the mic?
We didn't want it then, when the GOP was in power… and we don't want it now! What in the world are they thinking?
Afghanistan is just another losing proposition. America resembles the Titanic thanks to all the really bad decisions of the past 50 years made by just about every politician, corporate giant and financial enterprise. The “people” of this country are telling their representatives that we want them to make wiser decisions or we'll get rid of them.
We absolutely cannot afford to find yet more war when we can't even afford to properly educate our children!
Please vote NO! We cannot afford to prolong this war!
I, Luis Arce of my e-mail:luislottoloco@hotmail.com,I said that I am strong opposite to spent billions dollars in WAR: Irak & Afghanistan, PLEASE: STOP THIS ABUSE OF SPENT MONEY in WAR, Because “ARABIAN COUNTRIES “HATE” :U.S.A.,..These people are very HIPOCRATES with U.S.A., Do not spent money in War …This country, no have JOB, tto much people are hungry for food,A lot people loosing jobs, house, etc….BYE, In this moment it is : 10:34 p.m. of today: June/15/2009( Monday)….BYE

PEACE OUT!
Let's get out of Iraq and Afghanistan ! The Generals will always say we need to stay.
NO MORE WAR!!! Say “NO” to the War Supplemental bill. Haven't enough people died for no damned good reason! Stop it now!!!
It's time for a whole new paradigm. Let the old one go. Let's cooperate, peacefully and equitably and do our utmost to rescue this planet from…US!
That money shoud be used here to help poor americans
My congressman is one of the biggest warmongers on the Hill, Mike Rogers. But, even the Democrats know they don't have to take us seriously. They know we (the people) are too complacent, and there will be no political price to pay for voting yes. We need a major push to replace every last SOB in Congress: Operation House Cleaning or Operation Boot. We need to send the message that we've got to be taken seriously again. Let's boot them all out!
I swear these politicians are TOTTALY brain dead or there bank account is getting much larger with these BS bill's for more money for wars we can't win. And yet they want to cut education this just blows my mind!!!!!!
I also suggest the US demand that the mafia Bush family, dictator Dick Cheney and Halliburton pay for this one.
We can do it! Please call your representatives and stop the wars and shift our funding to humanitarian aid in Afghanistan and Iraq. Stop the killing.
Dear President Obama :
You want a “uniquely American solution” to the health care crisis. So do I. Fortunately, we already have a uniquely American solution. It works. It saves money. It's called Medicare. It's the most popular social program in history.
I want expanded and improved Medicare now. For me. For everybody. Just like in Rep. Conyers' bill, HR 676.
Health insurance is not the same as health care. Insurance is for accidents. Health care is not an accident. I want health CARE, not health insurance.
Insurance company flacks and high-paid lobbyists twist the truth about Medicare. It's not “socialized medicine.” Medicare is publicly financed, privately delivered health CARE. I have heard the nonsense about “government bureaucrats practicing medicine.” The insurance companies paid Harry and Louise to twist the truth in 1994 and spout half-baked “facts” to defeat the Clinton plan. That tactic won't fool me again.
Medicare works for Americans over 65. It will work even better for healthier younger people. Quit looking for a solution that gives the insurance companies more money. Use what works. Give Americans under 65 the same right that seniors have – the right to guaranteed affordable health care with free choice.
Medicare for me. Medicare For All. Everybody In, Nobody Out. Now.
LET US HAVE THE SAME MEDICAL CARE SYSTEM LIKE THE REST OF THE WORLD. ELIMINATE THE INSURANCE CORPORATIONS AND ELIMINATE THE PROFIT MOTIVE FOR THE ECO'S OF THESE CORPORATIONS.THE REST OF THE WORLD IS NOT CONTROLLED BY THE INSURANCE AND PHARMACICAL INDUSTRIES. WE DESERVE THE SAME COVERAGE LIKE THE POLITICIANS NOTHING LESS. SUPPORT REPRESENTATIVE JOHN CONYERS SINGLE PAYER BILL HR 676.
Sincerely
NICHOLAS SELVAGGIO

Sure. Say no to Afghanistan. But why stop there? Say no to Iraq and Pakistan, maybe Iran? Sure, but not enough. Mere symptoms. Add together all wars, and the hideous sum is still only symptoms. Stop one and another crops up. It is the disease that needs priority civic attention. Can anybody put a name to it? Let me dare. I say it is a convergence of two syndromes into a single diseases. One is profit. The other is wherewithal. Few will argue against either as being important, but where do they converge? Their junction is where Wall Street and the Federal Government meet–the Federal Reserve. The Fed, as it is called, has the unique, legislated right to create money out of the ether, subject only to the requirement that there be a borrower for it, with credentials for repayment. And the Federal Government is the world's premier borrower, willing to encumber its taxpayers with debt far into the future. The Fed is a central bank that profits from its loans. The profit accrues to private financial interests, who place a high value on war, because it has gargantuan needs that can only be met by borrowing. The wealth and power accumulated over time by this elite was displayed most recently when Congress and the Administration quickly ponied up a trillion dollars for bail out. There are other ways to run a country, and other ways to design a financial system. We got ours through a collusive process that transferred the concept of a central bank from Europe to the US beginning in 1913, when the Fed was created. It has many detractors, but no one has successfully challenged it. Since it created the ability of the nation to undertake vast projects without going to the taxpayer, it is at the root of our indebted society, and our war making. It is the beating heart of the beast. Want out of Afghanistan? Tear down this system and rebuild it from the ground up.
No more wars. Enough. We already help them but people never change and killed themself over and over.
Old people and handicapped already cutting off SSI because of spend billions dollar to pay to war supplies. Not our country. Bring our taxpayer to here for taking care of here only in USA.
I am deaf. I can't call .
The U.S. of A. is in a dire financial situation right now. We do not need more wars. We need education, jobs, and bail-outs for Americans who faced or are facing foreclosures,
joblessness, lack of health care, etc.
That outrageous amount of money could resolve quite a few problems here in our own country. More destruction, invasion, poverty and misery for other countries and ourselves is not what was promised to us as 'change'.
Change would mean to produce real results for American citizens, that are paying the price of the past administration's lack of vision for our nation, our people, and that of the
world at large.
Why must the US go overseas and create wars?
What is wrong with this picture.
Is this supposed to help my family?
Is this supposed to make the world safer?
I am opposed to the US being agressive and adversarial at my expense.
Do you believe this will get you re-elected?
I totally object to addiditional funding for war when there are no provisions made to bring our troops home. I fully support the troops but I think that it is suicidal to send our troops out there with no means provided to get them home. Would all the lawmakers who are pushing for more war funds put themselves on the line(go to war), or send there wives and children to the battle forefront as they do our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, mothers and fathers?
Lets be real. DON'T ABANDON OUR FAMILIES!!!!
The US imperial ambitions and serving the oil and other corporate interests using our hard earned working families and the dwindling middle classes tax dollars is causing the downfall of our nation and capitalism as we know it. The way out of our miseries is free education and health care for all. We cannot win by waring and killing the oil company opponents, the corporations can hire their own army of thugs and stop using the public monies to socialize their costs but fight against any social programs, we are at the end of the rope and will fight with our lives, we have nothing to lose.
We have become a huge war machine, while Rome (the US) is burning away!!! Put the fiddle down, and pay attention the real problems!!!
What a sight for my sore eyes!
This kind of reaction from US citizens and this kind of initiative to stop, end and prevent wars will be supported world wide.
All you have to do is to persuede your elected officials to vote against further funding of wars.
That is the first step to end war.
Continuing the WAR in Afghanistan is as bad as Bush's invading IRAQ. We are not providing FREEDOM & DEMOCRACY we are the agents of death, destruction and oppression that is always part of invasions.
In all the history of man, there are no other countrys to succeed in Afganistan!
ENOUGH!!! NO MORE WAR like PROMISED!!!
Healthcare, education, empowerment invest in Humanity, stop the insanity, no more war, no more war profiteering!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Vote NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wake up morning Joe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[...] wartime spending, that’s what Congress is hellbent on approving despite valiant efforts from a growing number of progressives led by FireDogLake’s Jane Hamsher to derail its passage. $100 billion, and for what? To [...]
I recently met a man who had spent the last several years in Iraq and Afghanistan as he said “defending our freedom”. He was a very high ranking officer in the Army. When I asked him what he thought we should do he said “nothing….pull back and get the hell out of their way til we can leave. We just make a mess of everything we try to do.” Enough said.
The bill has passed! Seems the Military Industrial Complex is alive and well in Washington. Military contracts has once again trumped common decency, and your Democratic Congress is on board!!
Today, funding millions for war is not the only way to address warfare. People in America needs those millions of dollars to save the american jobs. Has sense, isn't it?
enough murder for corporate profit!
Endless war, or END THIS WAR! So far I haven't seen much of a difference between Democrates and Republicans, in the sense they go about business to meet their own ends and needs, and have a complete disregard for the POPULIST that put them in office. The Republicans lie, spin, and do whatever it takes including a blatent disregard for the Constitution, to the effect of having their own, personal interpretation, certified by a judge or two. The Democrates cry change, but then roll over like a spinless jellyfish to corporate interest, lobbyists, and backdoor big money. At the present time we have two exports: Security, and Wepons. Our military spending is more than that of 2/3 the countries of the world. Our military has become nothing more than a corporate security force, MERCENARIES! And our government still gives BILLIONS, yes BILLIONS of dollars to mercenary contractors like Blackwater…appropriately named, who, like other war criminals, are not held responsible for murder, torture, war-crimes, and an overall front against humanity itself. Until there is some backbone in Congress, and some sort of consciousness that leads our president toward what is actually good for the people of the United States, the only thing that will change is if we, as Americans, TURN OFF the spin, Register INDEPENDENT, and sweep out all those who bow down to their Money God, and start their election campaign the day after they were elected.
