CareCen

The Central American Resource Center was founded by Salvadoran refugees determined to secure legal status for the thousands of Central Americans fleeing civil war in the early 1980s. CARECEN received 501C(3) status in 1983. In its more than 30 years of existence, CARECEN has gone from a small grassroots group to the largest Central American organization in the country. Its clients also changed, from refugees fleeing war in Central America to vibrant families from Latin America and elsewhere who are sinking roots in the United States.
