We're hiring a Documentary/Shorts Story Producer!

Brave New Films (BNF) seeks an individual to provide wide-ranging camera, interviewing, and editing skills to create short documentary films from a progressive viewpoint on topical social justice and political issues.

This position requires the ability to be an independent “jack-of-all-trades” but will also work closely to coordinate and collaborate with the Supervising Producer and the entire Shorts Team. This position requires excellent people skills, a high degree of technical competency, thrives in a fast-paced environment, creative spark, problem solving, and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • creating an approach to a topic
  • conducting interviews
  • filming appropriate broll and editing  

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Ability to work independently as a “one person band” conducting interviews, filming in the field, capturing b-roll, lighting, and recording clean audio is a must.
  • Ability to edit from raw footage to final deliverables. 
  • Passion for inspiring and creating change through film in a non-profit environment.
  • Ability to handle difficult interviews and/or emotionally charged situations and subject matter. 
  • Ability to operate in a fast-paced work environment where constant flexibility and excellence is expected while working effectively under the supervision of the Supervising Producer to create extraordinary documentary shorts.

 

Essential Functions and Duties

 

Technical Systems & Programs:

  • Proficient with the advanced video cameras such as the C300, and DSLRs.
  • Proficient at lighting both in the field and in a controlled studio environment.
  • Proficient at audio recording in the field.
  • Proficient at Premiere Pro and other creative programs in the adobe suite. 

Story Producer Responsibilities:

  • Filming and interviewing with a creative eye but covers our bases.  
  • Editing interviews, assembling story structure, and finessing a piece to deliver a final product on a tight schedule. 

Requirements

  • Ideally 3–5 years experience in documentary style filming and editing.
  • High level of interest in progressive/liberal politics and social justice.    
  • Strong work ethic, willing to go the extra mile and push yourself to create the best piece you have ever done every time we tackle a new piece.
  • Must be adaptable to a constantly changing needs under tight deadlines. 
  • This is a Los Angeles based position (Culver City). Must be willing to work in house, no remote requests will be considered.
