Dear Gov. Brown,
In March, Oregon passed an automatic registration law. And on June 2, the California Legislature passed a bill that could potentially add OVER 6 MILLION new voters to the California electorate. AB 1461 would automatically register Californians to vote when they get or renew a driver’s license making access to democracy just a little bit easier!
But now we need Governor Jerry Brown to sign the bill into law – he has not come out in support of the bill yet, leading to speculation that he might VETO IT!
In other countries, like France and Sweden, where governments automatically register voters, participation in elections puts our voting rates to shame.
We need the Governor to lead California and the country in a huge step forward in fixing our broken election system.
One in four eligible citizens in the United States is not registered to vote. In California, there are over 6 million eligible people who are not registered to vote. But we can fix this.
Governor Brown, don’t be just another barrier to voting in this country. California and the United States need you to be a leader now more than ever.
Sign AB 1461!
