Please join North Bronx Racial Justice for a community film screening of "The Bail Trap: American Ransom" on Martin Luther King Day -- Monday, January 21, 2-5 pm -- followed by speakers, discussion, and plans for action to end wealth-based detention and to demand a comprehensive bail and criminal justice reform package in 2019. Ending money bail cannot be a stand-alone reform. It must be fought for as part of a comprehensive package of reforms around building strong communities with resources. The time to demand change is now -- Gov. Cuomo promised to eliminate money bail in 2018, and both the houses of the NY State Legislature are now Democratic.
Speakers include Stanley Fritz, Citizen Action of New York and the #FreeNY campaign, and Hasan Covington, Marble Hill criminal justice advocate and campaigner.
Singer-songwriter Lindsey Wilson will perform.
