Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Miguel Gutierrez Jr. is a multimedia producer and visual journalist living in Austin, Texas. His work has appeared in Mitú, The New York Times, and Public Radio International. He is a first-generation college graduate, and in 2015 earned a dual M.A. in Latin American Studies and Journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. While in Chicago, he was involved with the immigrant rights movement, and upon moving to Texas, initiated a research project that sought to understand the experience of young migrants who had been deported to El Salvador from the United States. His interests include migration, identity, and visual storytelling. Miguel will focus on Post-Production during his year at Brave New Films.
