Some political movies are thought-provoking and entertaining. Michael Moore has made a number of such films which use humor generously. Although his films are not tightly argued, the insurance industry recognized their potency and used customer premiums to denigrate and smear him when he released a film (“Sicko”) critical of the insurance industry. Long-time insurance executive and public relation man Wendell Potter apologized to Moore for his role in their secret and shameful effort. Potter said Moore’s movie “hit the nail on the head.”

Campaign cash and the Kochs

No political contributors are as widely vilified as the Koch brothers.

Their immense wealth and interest in conservative and libertarian causes has made them a popular target among left-leaning pundits and political figures. The folks at Brave New Films — the production company responsible for the documentary “Koch Brothers Exposed” — say the billionaires “have been handed the ability to buy our democracy in the form of giant checks to the House, Senate, and soon, possibly even the presidency.”

Senator Kay Hagan (D-NC) has a bit of an unhealthy obsession. By the looks of her supporter emails, it seems she can’t get two people out of her head: the Koch brothers. In fact, 19 of her campaign’s last 21 emails have mentioned those mean old, rich Kochs.
