FILM DESCRIPTION
SUPPRESSED AND SABOTAGED 2026 is the latest installment in Brave New Films’ ongoing fight to expose voter suppression and election subversion in the United States.
Ahead of the 2026 midterms, the threat is no longer limited to one state, one election, or one tactic. Across the country, anti-democratic forces are using every tool available to control the future of our democracy: spreading lies about voter fraud, attacking mail-in voting, purging voter rolls, intimidating voters, seizing power over election systems, and redrawing maps to erase the political power of Black voters and communities of color.
Brave New Films first traveled the country in 2017 to document the emerging story of modern voter suppression — a journey that led to Georgia, where the race between Stacey Abrams and Brian Kemp became a defining case study in how democracy can be undermined in plain sight. Since then, SUPPRESSED AND SABOTAGED has continued to track the evolving attacks on the right to vote.
Now, in 2026, nearly a decade later, those attacks have multiplied. This short film exposes the multiple paths being used to suppress the vote, sabotage fair representation, and consolidate power before voters ever cast a ballot.
Our votes hold power — otherwise they wouldn’t be working so hard to suppress them.

Subject: Pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act Now
Dear [REPRESENTATIVE/SENATOR NAME],
I am writing as a constituent to urge you to support and pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act.
The freedom to vote is the foundation of our democracy, yet voters across the country continue to face barriers designed to make it harder for them to cast a ballot and have their voices heard. From restrictive voting laws and voter roll purges to attacks on mail-in voting and discriminatory maps, these efforts threaten fair representation and the future of our democracy.
Congress must act now to restore and strengthen the protections of the Voting Rights Act. Every eligible voter deserves equal access to the ballot, no matter their race, zip code, age, disability, language, or political affiliation.
Please do everything in your power to pass the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act and protect the freedom to vote before it’s too late.
Sincerely,
[YOUR NAME]
[CITY, STATE]

LEGACY
Since its original release, SUPPRESSED AND SABOTAGED has become one of Brave New Films’ most important projects, rooted in the belief that without the right to vote, we have nothing.
Screened thousands of times nationwide, including at hundreds of colleges and universities, the film has helped inform communities, spark urgent conversations, and support the ongoing fight to protect the vote. Its impact has reached from grassroots screenings to Washington, D.C. and beyond, earning praise from prominent political leaders as well as organizers on the front lines of the democracy movement.
Through partnerships with voting rights groups, civic organizations, universities, and grassroots advocates, SUPPRESSED AND SABOTAGED has become more than a film. It is an advocacy tool, a teaching resource, and a call to action — helping communities understand the threats to democracy and mobilize to defend it.
"Black Voters Matter applauds Brave New Films for sharing the story of voter suppression in Georgia. More than ever it's important for citizens to understand how fragile and vulnerable American democracy is in the current political environment. We hope that this film advances the national discourse around voting rights and voting suppression and catalyzes a new commitment to protecting and advancing voting rights in this country." LaTosha Brown, Co-founder of Black Voters Matter
"My dad was registering African Americans in South Georgia in the 1950s, and as this film shows, though we’ve made progress, many barriers remain. We encourage everyone to educate themselves about the continuing struggle for voter rights in the state of Georgia.” - Andrea Young, Executive Director of ACLU GA
“Our challenge and our call is to protect democracy, a major pillar of which is to ensure equitable access to voting. We need a system where we are ensured fairness, accuracy and transparency every time a ballot is cast. We need a system where voting is open and protected for all.” - Nse Ufot, Executive Director of New Georgia Project
"A powerful film that puts a human face on the policy of voter suppression. Greenwald has provided a timely and important look at a critical issue confronting our democracy. The film is both an educational tool and rallying cry for the ACLU and other groups fighting policies and practices that threaten our democracy." -Anthony Romero, Head of ACLU
“How appalling is the notion that this video reflection can be filmed in America in 2019; one and half centuries after the end of the US Civil War, 54 years after Lynden Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, and eleven years after the first Black US President was elected. It is a civic disgrace that the governor's election in the state of Georgia was stolen from Stacy Abrams and from the marginalized citizens who worked so hard and with such determination to elect the first Black female governor in the state of Georgia. I fully support the contents of the video and I am happy to host its screening at FAME Church in the days ahead.” -Rev. J. Edgar Boyd, Senior Minister First AME Church Los Angeles
