This is a rare moment in history that needs immediate action. Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia passed away in his sleep on Saturday, February 13th. With his passing, SCOTUS is left with no majority lead and a vacant seat that needs to be filled immediately.
President Obama has nominated Judge Merrick B. Garland to fill the seat so that the Supreme Court may continue their crucial work of handing out decisions to pending and upcoming cases, fully staffed.
Meanwhile, the Senate plans to do nothing. That's right. The Senate has been vocal that they intend to block nominations with the intent of waiting for a newly elected President to appoint a Scalia successor. This means they would go months with a vacancy in the Supreme Court.
This blatantly disregards the fact that filling the vacancy is Congress' constitutional responsibility. By the Senate negating their responsibility and unnecessarily prolonging the process for their own agenda, they are disrespecting our Democracy.
There is absolutely NO just reason why the Senate should be making plans to block President Obama's nomination when he does names one.
Sign here and share to call out the Senate for not wanting to do their job.
