Nowhere To Go: Shutting Out Syrians
The Syrian Civil War has led to the world’s worst humanitarian crisis and the worst refugee crisis since World War II. As the conflict drags into its fifth year, the numbers of refugees seeking safety outside the country continue to grow. More than 4.8 million Syrians are now registered as refugees and millions more are otherwise displaced. Nowhere To Go: Shutting Out Syrians was created in partnership with Amnesty International USA so that we might impact overall numbers of admitted refugees to the United States and condemn xenophobic attitudes and the lack of leadershipin Washington that exacerbate the refugee crisis.
A number of countries have responded by admitting hundreds of thousands of refugees. In the last six months alone, our neighbor Canada admitted nearly 27,000 Syrians. The United States has since responded with a commitment to admit 10,000 screened refugees during the 2016 fiscal year. Nonetheless, only 2,805 Syrian refugees have been admitted in the first eight months of this fiscal year.
